TILT TO TURN

By Frédéric Gies and Rivet

Tilt to Turn was originally commissioned by the festival Intonal as part of an online project, in replacement of the festival during COVID-19. Intonal paired up musician Rivet (Mika Hallbäck Vuorenpää) together with choreographer Frédéric Gies.

Later on, the project continued and became a performance for the stage, with a first version more similar to the original dance improvisation and a final version that consisted in a tightly choreographed dance.

From Intonal:

In the beginning of 2021, it was still very uncertain if we would be able to pull off a festival at any time this year. We had been producing two festivals that didn't happen at that point, and really felt that we HAD to do something or we'll break. So we came up with the idea of doing little guerrilla actions where we crash various locations around Malmö, without notice or announcement, and just create what we love. No crowd or anything, just us, the artists and their creativity. To fuel our souls while we kept waiting for the world to open up for culture again. Fast forward to today and we're actually doing a festival this June! Albeit very different to its original form. But we still quite liked the guerrilla performance concept, and thought why not do it anyways? So we did. And we got a bunch of Intonal related artists to join.

Here's the first one; featuring Rivet and Frédéric Gies who have made a unique piece specifically for Intonal: ”Tilt To Turn”. It was filmed at the amazing Kornheddinge Kvarn (Kornheddinge Mill) situated 20 minutes outside Malmö, during a very cold April morning.

Music and dance were composed this spring, performed only this once with the birds, dogs and crew as crowd. And now you too. We hope you like it as much as we do!

From Brådjupa programme text:

Tilt to Turn is a collaboration between electronic music artist Rivet and choreographer Frédéric Gies. It explores the intensities that body and sound create together, from raw expression to abstraction.
