2026 FALL PROGRAM

Dear dance and dance floor lovers,

It is with great pleasure that we announce our program for Maison de la Danse fall 2026!

In spring 2026 we danced with misfits and troublemakers: we presented Frédéric Gies, Olympia Bukkakis' & Maria Scaroni and Snorre Elvin – artists exploring queer positions through somatic practice, seen through the eyes of the fool, the witch and the asshole.

Building on this momentum, we open the fall season on September 6, with Morrow, a new performance by Køteren og Terrieren. Having toured across the Nordics, the duo arrives in Malmö with a durational piece that challenges norms surrounding gender and identity, to create spaces where stories and relationships can unfold in alternative ways.

A few weeks later, October 2-3, Frédéric Gies presents the ensemble version of Dans (Sverige) at Inkonst. While the piece reactivates material from Gies's twelve years in Sweden, it also uncovers an uncanny kinship with Maison de fous, a 1920 piece by Les Ballets Suédois. In Dans (Sverige), Gies sheds the fetishization of national origin, carrying us instead into an ecstatic parade through times of looming fascism.

This new piece paves the way to our grand opening on December 4: the exhibition Frédéric Gies and Maison de fous at Moderna Museet Malmö. Departing from that same uncanny kinship, and presenting a selection of works from Moderna Museet's collection, the exhibition embraces “le fou” to create an expressionistic universe, characterized by a soft subversiveness and tender ecstasy.

Throughout the exhibition period, the Turbine Hall will transform into a rehearsal space and a stage for continuous activation. Marking 20 and 10 years respectively since Gies created their influential pieces Dance (Practicable) and Dance is Ancient, the program takes a retrospective gaze on their practice by reactivating works from their repertoire and inviting guest choreographers who have shaped Gies's own path.

At the opening, Gies performs a site-specific piece, followed by the solo version of Dans (Sverige) on December 5 and walk + talk on December 12. Tuesday through Sunday, throughout the exhibition, Gies will use the dance floor as a workspace for public rehearsals and movement structures. By dwelling deep into their choreographic archive, the retrospective will unfold as a process – a living presence rather than a static monument.

The public program continues at Moderna Museet Malmö until April 2027, before we move back to Fuxia2 and Ungdomens hus. We will announce the spring  program ulteriorly.

We hope you will enjoy this season!
