LIKES DEALER #2

As a way of countering the logics (or absence of logics) that dictate the often too short life span of dance pieces, Frédéric Gies started building programmes of dances as well as new performances that recycle dances from their repertoire. These programmes and new performances are not a nostalgic fetishisation of the past but a way to keep on producing new meaning out of one’s own history. Until now, they have presented this kind of programme and works in their self-organised context “Maison de la Danse” or in the frame of exhibitions. Likes Dealer #2, created for being presented at DOCK 11, navigates between recent dances that have never been presented in Berlin and dances as old as from Gies’ Berlin years in the 00’s. Relentless dancing, deviant and voluptuous gestures, clockwork compositions, uncompromising seriousness and deadpan humour are to be expected.
